My Fantasy Football Team

We had our draft last night for our Fantasy Football League. The NFL starts today with Washington vs. New York Giants so it was perfect timing. We start two QBs in our league and they are pretty highly valued. Here’s my team:
QB – Drew Brees
QB – Derek Anderson
RB – Brian Westbrook
RB – Willis McGahee
WR – Chris Chambers
WR – Santonio Holmes
WR – Hines Ward
TE – Alge Crumpler
K – Jason Elam
Def – San Diego
Bench – Jonathon Stewart RB
Bench – Rashard Mendenhall RB
Bench – Tarvaris Jackson QB
Bench – Muhsin Muhammad WR
Bench – Devin Hester WR
Bench – Darrell Jackson WR
Bench – Marcedes Lewis TE

I play Matt Doan in Week 1. I’m looking forward to it because it’s always helpful to start the season with an easy win to get things going strong. By the way, in our league with 2 QBs starting he only has JP Losman and Jim Sorgi. Neither is a starting QB in the NFL. Hilarious. I look forward to the win.

What do you think of my team? Do you care? Do you play fantasy sports?

nicely done. i dont know that i would start ward and holmes, kinda conter productive, do you guys count kick return yards? if so i would start d hester (im sure you know that). if someone hasnt picked up ray rice or chris jackson – i would keep my eyes on those 2. they will be stud rbs this year. good luck!!

  3. exciting! really… ok not really but im glad that people have found something to bring them together and bond, such as fantasy football. im with michelle its another language.

i am proud to say, there is absolutely NO sport watching in the gniffke home. hallelujah! God really does answer prayers.

  4. I like that you picked the Charger’s D and Drew Brees at QB. Doan’s a funny guy.

In general, I think fantasy sports are one step removed from fantasy role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. It’s like the socially acceptable thing for guys to participate in and satisfy their inner geek.

  5. pretty good team. my league only starts 1 QB and 6 individual defenders. here’s mine:

    QB- Kurt Warner
    RB- Frank Gore
    RB- Marshawn Lynch
    WR- Larry Fitzgerald
    WR- T.J. Houshmandzadeh
    WR- Isaac Bruce
    TE- Kellen Winslow
    K- Nick Folk
    D- Mike Vrabel
    D- Oshiomogho Atogwe
    DB- Terrence McGee
    DB- Bob Sanders
    DL- Thomas Howard
    DL- D.J. Williams
    Bench- Derek Anderson QB
    Bench- Julius Jones RB
    Bench- Justin Fargas RB
    Bench- L.J. Smith TE
    Bench- Roddy White WR
    Bench- Kevin Curtis WR

    how bout them apples?

  6. These comments are classic. Trevor – you are right. It is a bit like D&D although I never did that because only evil satan worshipers would have played that game.

Arms – how many teams in your league? We have 12.

  7. 12 and I did win my opener!

LifeLab on Spiritual Dryness

I’m teaching our How to Grow LifeLab this Wednesday night at Calvary Church. It’s all about wilderness experiences in the sense of spiritual dryness. I think it will be really helpful for people. It’s so easy to give up or get depressed when we don’t “feel God.” What has been helpful for you when you [...]

Parables Recap Video

We just finished our Parables series and Tammy Harris and Tim Gold made an awesome recap video of the whole series. I was bummed to miss it in the service last Sunday but loved seeing it finally yesterday. I think it is so helpful for myself and the people of Calvary Church to be reminded [...]

John Townsend & Empathy

John Townsend spoke at Calvary Church yesterday at a Pastors Forum sponsored by CIFT. CIFT is the Center for Individual and Family Therapy. We pretty much exclusively refer people to them that have needs beyond our own Calvary Life Counseling Center. So anyways, John Townsend of Boundaries fame spoke to a group of pastors and [...]

Ted Haggard at Q

BELOW IS A POST FROM TIM STEVENS’ BLOG. Tim was at the Q Conference which seems like a pretty cool, “edgy” conference. A couple friends of mine are there and yes, I’m a little bitter. The conference had an interview with Ted and Gayle Haggard that was initially not allowed to be public but they [...]

Summer

Oh summer, I love you. I can’t wait until you are here. One more week and you will be with me. Waking up at 5:00am every day will be gone for your season. My wife, kids and I will enjoy mornings together without stress and hurry. Oh summer, I love you. Come quickly.

Home from Hawaii

We just got back today from a great week in Hawaii. I highly encourage you to go to Bea’s Blog for some awesome photos. My highlights: 1. Thurston Lava Tube hike – this was an amazing short hike through some of the coolest rainforest I have ever seen and then you walk through a long tunnel that [...]

Top 10 Lines from HS Students’ Papers

These are Bea’s Top 10 stupid things that her students have written in papers over the year. It’s hilarious and a little sad. Enjoy. 10. The age of disco was risky.  The drugs and sex made people make poor choices in fashion as well as lifestyles. 9. Nuclear weapons cannot be enlightened economically. (the student did not [...]

Kris Allen singing “God of this City”

Kris Allen Singing “God Of This City” {American Idol} from Rick Smith on Vimeo. I don’t know much about this, but Jason Loftis sent me this. You may know this already, but Kris Allen is part of New Life Church in Little Rock. Apparently, he is an occasional worship leader at the church’s Conway campus. [...]

Catch Phrase Bible

I just read John 11-14 and I was moved by it. Then a little while later I thought I would blog some about it. I kept looking for bits and pieces that could be an encouragement to you as you read this post. But then I kept seeing how that bit or piece by itself [...]

FaceBook – Tool, Fun or Terror

I’ve heard some buzz about this lately from friends and even speakers at conferences, but it’s the question of whether FaceBook is good or evil (Twitter is a whole other question). A friend had to cancel their FB account because of some major family conflict and needed to go off the grid. That made people ask [...]
